Resource management

My articles focused on the perspective of two communities Los Angeles CA and Henan China. Both communities are in the worst drought of recent times. Both feel that the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is a waste of much needed fresh water.  People in these communities are forced to cut back on water use.

As we all know all have heard and know, fresh water or the lack there of, is becoming a bigger and bigger problem around the world. Ground water reserves are dwindling for many reasons. We must get a handle on this problem for the sake of everyone.

At the same time ALS is a disease which affects many. The awareness and funds have helped to shine a much needed spot light on this problem. The question here is could we have done it a better way? Also perhaps we could find a way to use this Ice bucket challenge to also shine the spot light on the lack of fresh water, a bigger problem than ALS.

·        What are the links to the two news sources you reviewed?
The connection between the two sources is the simple harmless and helpful act doing well. While unintentionally offending others by wasting a valuable resource. Yes, the Ice bucket challenge has helped many people and has raised many needed funds. But if you are one of the people in need of and in search of clean fresh water this simple act is offensive, in considered and mindless.
  • What is the subject of these articles and how are they related to one or more of the seven revolutions?
The subject is wasting our resources. It related to the value of fairness and to the value of relevance. While yes, the ice bucket challenge seemed like a good innocent way for all to be involved in a good cause. However, from another perspective people are in need of fresh water. And when you add up the many buckets of wasted water from their stand point, that water could have made many, meals, provided many cups of drinking water and helped to clean many of dirty wounds. And more.
It is also a fair point. I must say that I have donated to organizations that drill and build fresh water pumps and wells for undeveloped communities in 3rd world countries. I have worked in missions in communities in which men in their 20’s died from infected chicken pox- no fresh water to bath in. My daughter spent half this summer building wells and teaching personal hygiene to undeveloped communities. She also did the ice bucket challenge. Yes, I understand both sides both sides are valid. And both sides
  • How are these two sources similar in the way they reported on this topic?
Both are simple and to the point. Thus providing clarity. Both provided accurate information. We know this because we know that fresh water in many parts of the world is in short supply.
  • How are these two sources different in the way they reported on this topic?
The reporter in California showed biases in his story and a true lack of professionalism. To the point of making the reader wonder is this a real story or a paper. As the reader I also did not feel compelled to see the side of the County. I felt both the reported and city could have done better.

The reporter telling the perspective of the Chinese community showed no biases. I understood and agreed with the people of the Henan community.
